DANIEL SCHMIDT
MY STORY
As a lifelong Alabamian, sports, politics and Southern culture have always played a major role in my life. Whether it was the trial of former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman, watching college football or the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, I've always compulsively followed the news.
Yet despite that natural interest in reporting, I didn't get into journalism until later in life. I enrolled in Auburn University's School of Communication and Journalism in May 2021, having already earned a bachelor's in Political Science from Troy University.

I’m a journalist that is passionate about speaking truth to power and giving a voice to the voiceless. I enjoy talking to people from all walks of life and telling stories about the obscene, obscure and outrageous. My expertise includes long-form feature writing, photojournalism and videography.
I’m currently seeking internship opportunities or early-career positions anywhere in the United States. Specific topics of interest include organized crime, armed conflict and the fringes of society.

I am also available for freelance opportunities and can produce written articles, audio-based pieces and photographs for any story. You can find me on Instagram (@dschmidtphotos) and Twitter (@dschmidttweets).
